Louis Corallo shares candidly his path to being a storyboard artist and to now CAKE Collective’s Executive Creative Director.

What was your artistic origin story?

I was a lonely little boy with very little confidence growing up. Except for one thing.

Drawing.

I first discovered I was good at drawing when my teacher displayed my portraits on the classroom wall for everyone to marvel at.

For some reason, colouring inside the lines and adding some shading amazed everyone. Others got jealous and would bully me.

What followed was drawing every day until my fingers would fall off, and soon I was creating my own comics, channeling all my raging hormones onto the page. If you’re a parent, you know what dealing with teen-angst feels like.

Ever had your passion derailed?

I did. Art school crushed my love for drawing. The very place meant to nurture my
creativity drained it instead. But life found a way to steer me back on course. I ended up
studying film, where an amazing teacher reignited my passion.

He saw that I had big ideas and encouraged me to storyboard so that my team could
have the slightest clue what I was going on about.

What pivotal decision changed your life? Storyboard or Running Coffee.

For me, it was choosing between being a coffee-fetching runner or pursuing
storyboarding in London as a fresh graduate.

Where was my value?

As a runner, I had to prove my experience in order to get paid. As a storyboard artist, I
already had a decade of experience just drawing away in my bedroom. So, I was paid
handsomely on feature films and commercials. It was a great time to be alive.

Fast forward, and now I’m the Executive Creative Director of The CAKE Collective. My
storyboards aren’t just sketches; they’re blueprints that guide entire productions, from
music videos to branded content. Even in the age of A.I., my drawings continue to
inspire and shape ideas.
